Hodin is a lesson in trying things and failing a lot and in hilarious ways,but in trying things and ultimately in perseverance. The author over uses words such as "creatures" and "small people" ad infinitum and it becomes very wearing. This book is just snippets of observations over an undisclosed period of time that are roughly chronological, but we are hardly told anything about the author and her husband, how old they are and when the events took place, which turns out to be 30 years ago. There is a lack of description which is annoying, for instance I have no idea what breed the goats, pigs or other animals are on the farm, and her slap dash way with the safety of her very young children is frightening. Her 2 year old has access to lethal yew berries, which she eats and the kids are allowed to flood the bathroom whilst the mothers chat downstairs. I am amazed her 2 girls made it to adulthood.
